Dale Price held no illusions that a 60,000 gallon pond would probably operate amazingly clear together with the “all-natural” biological filtration system recommended by local pond contractors in the middle of the 1990′s. Price recognized that when the KOI fish grew he would be breaking each and every pound per gallon principle in the KOI literature. With his spouse, a animal medical practitioner, he set out on a new one year design and water treatment undertaking to have one of the most significant KOI collections in the U.S. viewable in amazingly clear water with extraordinary flora on the bottom.

The pond is twelve feet deep, oval in shape with a complete water garden bottom. A small peninsula protrudes so he can ring his liberty bell to summon fish for feeding, often from the hand. Price first began with a 30 GPM ionization and oxygenation well water turbo system to treat his home, irrigation and auto fill needs for the pond. The natural oxygen and ionization chambers for the home resulted in .10 to .15 ppm residual copper going into both his residence and the pond on the replenishment water.

The residual was never measured however in the main pond, probably due to the 2 900lb bubble bead biological filters. Price installed 2 Zeolite filters with an oxygen system to prevent ammonia buildup from the larger KOI, harmful both to the KOI and their water garden plants. A CO2 pH injection system was also required to keep the pond from reaching the 8.0ph that existed in Price’s well, particularly after the daily KOI feeding. PH was ultimately maintained in a 7.2 to 7.6 range with carbon dioxide injected 24/7 and even backed up by a sulphuric acid injector that kicked on by sensor when pH levels hit 7.5.

The pond hit 80-90% clarity on a regular basis, even so definitely not good enough for Price and the pond at the same time generated recurrent string algae. With his wife’s, the veterinarian, advice Price came to the conclusion to add copper to the pond to get rid of the string algae and strive for 95-100% daily clarity in the 12 foot deep fish-pond. With regular supervising of the copper concentrations, .10, .15, .20 and finally .25ppm copper was added with the KOI fish monitored. Price noted at .25ppm his koi “were not pleased” and levels ended up being scaled back to .15ppm – - just enough to eradicate string algae and bring clarity to almost “mirror quality”.

“The low level copper gives us a view of the Black EPDM liner defects in areas the water garden struggles. It is a dramatic clarity” said Price. The average do it yourself pond owner can also benefit in simpler pond or stream environments from the scale control, O2 oxygen controlling ammonia levels and the glass filter media.

Do you love to go scuba diving? Do you experience harmony the most when you are soaring beneath the water’s shell where a unique, quieter universe thrives? If you love to scuba then you should think about carrying scuba diving personal bank checks. They are incredibly easy to find when you purchase them on the Internet and they’re most likely not as costly as you may think.

Numerous people around the world love to scuba. Regardless as to whether you like diving in the Caribbean, Florida, or even Australia, there is an underwater world that waits for the experienced and beginner divers alike that is disparate to anything that you can perceive on earth. It can be tranquil and peaceful, or it can be filled with danger and contention, but no two diving encounters are ever alike.

If you decide to buy scuba diving checks, then you will be able to take your love of scuba diving along with you everywhere you go. Whenever you take out your checkbook, you will have a reminder of those unruffled, bottomless depths of the sea and the magnificent sights that you have encountered while moving smoothly through the waters. Although you can’t always go diving whenever you truly desire, at least you can have a token of those amazing times.

At least one scuba check series contains 8 rotating designs so it will be awhile before you replicate any of these images! With these bright checks, you will instantaneously be carried under the surface of the water to a world jam-packed of luminously colored ocean life.

There are also selections of checks that center on the loveliness of undersea life, as viewed from the scuba diver’s eyes. Take, for example, Wyland’s mesmerizing Ocean World series. These checks show stunning images of sea turtles, dolphins, orcas, and whales.

If there are individual animals that you like viewing below the surface, then you might want to think about getting checks that include images of them. There are many checks that include pictures dolphins, sea turtles, tropical fish, and other undersea life.

Some time ago, visiting your local bank to purchase personal checks could be costly and lengthy. Once there, you usually had to settle for designs that you really didn’t want, either because they didn’t have many to choose from or because the ones you actually wanted were costly.

Now, however, when you order your checks online you can save as much as 50% off the cost of your checks. When you order through a safe website not only will you save money, but you will have an assortment of check designs to choose from.

When you order your checks on the Internet, just remember to have your checking account number and routing number handy so that they can be printed onto the checks themselves. You can typically count on getting your checks somewhere between 3-5 days. This might be faster than your bank got them to you.

Before your purchase scuba checks, go to ScubaChecks.com to find coupon codes and to save 50% off your next purchase of scuba personal checks.

Information about caring for fish gold: despite common depiction of goldfish swimming in bowls, they should not be kept in such cramped containers. The limited space gives stress to your goldfish and eventually stunts their growth.

Goldfish are freshwater fish whose ancestors come from Asia. They live in cold water and are one of the hardiest of fish which make them easy to look after, and a good first pet for young children to learn about caring for a pet.

The name goldfish is misleading as not all fish of that breed are gold in color. Some goldfish have patches of black or silver. To prevent predators fishing into your tank, protect the opening with a secure cover. Maintain the cleanliness using a filtration system and an air pump. It is customary to line the bottom of your tank with gravel or glass marbles.

Check with your pet store to make sure your tap water is safe for use in the tank. Most tap water has a neutral pH and gold fish thrive in neutral pH levels (available gold fish information indicates they thrive specifically between 7.2 to 7.6 pH).

As the size of your tank matters, you need to buy a tank that your fish can grow into. For every inch of goldfish length, you need 30 square inches of surface area to keep your fish happy. It is a common practice to transfer fish longer than 5 inches to a pond.

Gold fish produce a lot of waste, and waste leads to rising ammonia levels. Ammonia is toxic to gold fish and must be kept to a minimum. Encourage the development of good bacteria within your tank and invest in a sufficient filtration system.

Unfortunately, this first experience for many with fish in general tends to be a poor one. Setting up a goldfish in a 1-gallon bowl is a recipe for disaster. As I mentioned, they eat a lot.

Indoors, goldfish may be housed in rectangular aquariums placed away from direct sunlight. Do not bring fish home until the aquarium is readied. Lay a 3 – 5 cm thick layer of clean, small earth coloured gravel on the tank floor.

The last point I want to bring up is feeding and nutrition. Goldfish in nature are opportunists. Many thousands of years have developed this vegetation loving fish into an opportunistic feeder. Our gold fish always did that and lasted 5 years don’t worry about it. Really what else has he to do? AquariumHobbyist.com has a full line of species forums where you can discuss fish species with other owners, and hobbyists.

Goldfish need food specifically prepared for them. Spread a pinch of food over the surface of the water 2- 4 times a day which the fish should finish within 2 – 3 minutes. If too much is given, the water will become cloudy, and bacterial levels will rise.

Out of all the hundreds of thousands of fancy goldfish imported into the United States each year, very few can pass our high standards to qualify as “Show Quality” goldfish.

Blue-green algae on the tank floor and on plant leaves indicates alkaline water and unhealthy aquarium conditions. Green algae growing on the glass, is a sign of healthy water, and fish enjoy nibbling it. You can remove it from the front to see your fish, but leave it on the back.

All of our goldfish are hand picked for us, so we can insure you that your imported selections are the very finest Goldfish available. Our prices range from $39.99 to hundreds of dollars per fish. Keep watching our Goldfish Showroom for all our NEW arrivals.

You’ll discover all types of exciting tips. From identifying the gender of your Goldfish to learning what the best population of your tank would be simple as that!

A kilogram of Tilapia costs sh6000 while Catfish goes for sh7,000 or sh10,000. The main challenges in fish farming are feeding, maintenance skills and cost of construction of the fish ponds.

The first decision you must make when you buy an aquarium is whether you plan to keep freshwater fish or saltwater fish. This is a personal decision, however, you might want to go with fresh water fish.

Salt water fish are harder to take care of and more expensive. Temperature, water conditioning and the salinity of water are only some of the things you will have to worry about with salt water fish. Fresh water fish are much easier to care for.

Here’s a few other things to keep in mind when buying an aquarium:

Location The aquarium cannot be placed in sunlight, or anywhere else where the water temperature might be affected.

Once it is filled with water, the aquarium is very heavy. For instance, a 20-gallon tank filled with water weighs over 225 pounds. Bear this in mind when you choose on a location for your aquarium…as it will be impossible to move afterwards.

Choose a floor that’s leveled.

Pick a leveled floor to minimize the possibility of cracks developing in the tank from being on an uneven floor.

Electrical outlet

Keep your tank near an outlet to have easy access to electricity for your lighting, heaters and pumps.

Accessible

Access to the tank should be easy, in order to properly manipulate heater controls and air valves. You also need to have room for a net, and room to move decorations around.

Shape

When it comes to aquarium shapes, short, larger ones work better than thin, tall ones. Greater surface area at the top of the water is better for the fish.

What size of aquarium should you choose?

It is best to choose an aquarium over 10 gallons. It is easier to take care of a fish living in a larger tank. Regardless of the type of aquarium, waste will build up in it. In a large tank these toxic materials have more room to be dispersed. This means the water stays cleaner for longer, and will require less cleaning than a smaller tank.

Material

Aquariums are typically made from glass or acrylic. Both have there pros and cons, but it’s recommended for beginners to start with a glass aquarium. Glass is less expensive, it is less likely to scratch and only needs to be supported at the edges.

All of these tips must be kept in mind when you set up an aquarium. They are all important factors in your decision.

Adding live plants to aquariums provides beauty, shelter, food and cleaner water. Plants also absorb carbon dioxide and waste product and increase the oxygen level, aside from producing tiny worms, rotifers and protozoa the fish eats.

Adding live plants to aquariums provides beauty, shelter, food and cleaner water. Plants also absorb carbon dioxide and waste product and increase the oxygen level, aside from producing tiny worms, rotifers and protozoa the fish eats.

You will need adequate lighting for the plants to grow. You will need to provide 12-14 hours of light each day. The average amount of light needed is 3-5 watts per gallon. You can choose a compact fluorescent bulb, or a 20, 50-watt halogen bulb.

Plants also require the proper nutrients to stay healthy and green. It is very easy to do. Nutrients to feed the plants come from the fish in the tank – you can add more if needed. And they are fertilized by fish waste. You can add a commercial fertilizer when you change the water, but it’s usually better to follow the “less is more” philosophy when it comes to fertilizing your plants. Too much fertilizer can cause problems with algae growth in the tank, and you can always add more if required.

What about water temperature? An average temperature of 72f to 78f is usually great for the plants to thrive. The pH of the water is also important – a pH of 6.8 to 7.8 is ideal.

Snails are also helpful in maintaining a good aquarium environment. Snails clean plants of food and small algae, as they crawl over leaves and foliage. Some snails, however, should not be used. Ramshorn, pond and some other species eat the leaves and should not be used. But, if you notice bad snails, removing them is very simple. Simply place lettuce leaves at the top of the aquarium to attract the snails – remove everything with a net once all the snails have assembled on the lettuce pieces.

Rinse the plants before you place them in the aquarium to remove unwanted insects. Healthy plants have solid roots and firm leaves, so this is what you should look for when purchasing aquatic plants. Stay away from plants that smell funny, especially bulbs.

Younger plants generally adjust better to transplantation, so keep this in mind as well. The plant might lose a few leaves during the adjusting period. There is nothing unusual about that. To promote healthy new growth, just remove dead leaves as they appear, being careful not to damage the roots.

Live plants give a special touch to the aquarium, and they keep your fish happy and healthy.
